Course Description: This course is a study of door and window installations in a historical restoration environment. Techniques for repair, restoration and maintenance of historical elements will be covered. Wooden and metal elements will be discussed, as well as, retrofitting historic doors and windows with double insulated glass for better thermal efficiency. This course also looks at the numerous materials and style of roofing materials used in historical buildings. Topics to include: installing slate, wood shake, clay tiles, compositions, asphalt, rubber membrane and sheet metal. We will cover installation, common problem areas and maintenance of roofing products.
