Nursing

Nurses are in high demand. In 2023, the Savannah metro area had a skills gap of 3,173 for registered nurses (RN), 1,611 for practical nurses (LPN), and 1,052 for nurse aides (CNA). Savannah Technical College provides training through competitive selection and with short-term training options including: practical nurses, patient care technicians, and nurse aides. The College will soon will offer the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN), which will allow those that complete it to take the registered nurse exam.

  • Associate of Science in Nursing: The Georgia Board of Nursing (GBON) granted developmental approval for the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program at Savannah Technical College. Developmental approval grants the College the permission to begin the development of an ASN program. Pending initial approval by GBON and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), the first cohort of 24 students will begin in January 2025. Graduates of the Associate of Science in Nursing program will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Learn more with our ASN FAQ.
  • Practical Nursing Diploma: This diploma is a competitive selection program that prepares graduates to give competent nursing care. Graduates will be eligible to participate in the NCLEX-PN examination and licensure to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN).
  • Patient Care Technician Certificate: This TCC builds upon the skills mastered in the Nurse Aide Specialization and includes blood drawing techniques, EKG measurement, basic wound care, basic respiratory care, colostomy care, and bladder catheter insertion.
  • Nurse Aide Certificate: This TCC prepares students for patient care in general medical and surgical hospitals, nursing care facilities, community care facilities for the elderly, and home health care services. Students who successfully complete the TCC may be eligible to sit for the National Nurse Aide Assessment program (NNAAP), which determines competency to become enrolled in the state nurse aide registry (CNA).
  • Nurse Aide Accelerated Certificate: This TCC is an intensive 7.5-week program that will put graduates to work faster to help meet the increasing demand for Certified Nurse Aides (CNA) with area hospitals, assisted living and long-term care centers. Students will attend class eight hours per day, two days per week and will also take an online class.
  • Geriatric Care Assistant Certificate: This TCC provides the basic knowledge and skills needed to qualify employment as a nurse aide in nursing homes, elder personal care homes, and home healthcare agencies. The certificate emphasizes geriatric patient care, CPR, and first aid. Students successfully completing the certificate are eligible to be placed on the State Registry for nurse aides.
